Thank you everyone who helped with the Municipal Sustainability Plan. The Planning stage is now complete and now it is up to all of us in the community to work towards the implementation. Hand in hand with council, citizens and businesses of the community, it is up to us to make a difference!

Please use the search button to the left to search for files that were created throughout the length of the project. These include questionaires, surveys, the final MSP sections and the implementation plan itself.

MSP PRESENTATION – Town Council – Wed, December 22nd 2010 @ 7:00pm

The MSP Coordinator of the Town of Swan Hills from the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (waQas Yousafzai) will be presenting the Municipal Sustainability Plan titled: “Our Community. Our Plan. Our Future” to the citizens of Swan Hills and the Town council on December 22nd 2010. The plan was approved by council on August 25th 2010 and took a period of twenty months, 17 public consultation sessions, 3 drafts, over 500 hours of volunteer hours, and a lot of back and forth between council and citizens.

The general public is welcome to attend as it will only be an information session lasting about 45 minutes going over the MSP process. The presentation will cover the following:

a) What is the MSP
b) Why MSP and how it came about (federal, provincial and municipal requisites)
c) Results of the MSP process (surveys and consultations)
d) Future of MSP (post 2011)
e) How to get involved and implement the plan (implementation through citizens)

This will be the last public presentation on the Municipal Sustainability Plan and therefore the citizens of Swan Hills are encouraged to come and get involved.

Ingredients for Success

Citizen Engagement is a critical ingredient in local democracy
Effective governance relies on public participation.
Creates opportunities in developing leadership and capacity
Improves transparency and accountability.
Creates a cultural that supports actions in developing a community which is invested in the common good for all of the citizens.
The process is adaptable to other communities, regardless of size, demographics, and geography.
The investment of time and patience is critical in moving through the process of developing the MSP.
